Transitive Property of Inequality 2

This is similar to the Transitive Property of Equality, but we should carefully follow the comparison symbols used in the property. More precisely:

if the following are true:
  • a < b
  • a = c

then c < b

Here are some examples:

  1. if the following are true:
    • x < y
    • x = 3

    then 3 < y

  2. if the following are true:
    • j + 4 < 7
    • j + 4 = k

    then k < 7

  3. if the following are true:
    • mn < 2
    • mn = jk

    then jk < 2
