Algebra 1 / Chapter 1: Addition And Subtraction / Basic Properties
Reflexive Property of Equality
The Reflexive Property of Equality simply states that any value is equal to itself. More precisely:
a = a
This property seems trivial, but it is surprisingly useful. For example, this property is used to prove a theorem about congruent triangles.
a is an expression, so it can be a value, variable, an operation, among others.
Examples
5 = 5
3 + 6 = 3 + 6
x / 4 = x / 4
